When it comes to wedding themes the possibilities are endless, ranging from modern styles to vintage. So how do you make up your mind if you’re still on the fence?

We’re big advocates of weddings that feel like the couple. You can always tell, even from just the pictures, when someone has planned a wedding that’s absolutely nothing like their own personality and taste. It lacks that little special intangible something…

So let’s break it down by theme to help you identify what kind of a wedding might incorporate most authentically into your own personality and style:

Modern.

These sleek weddings course these are the most popular themes, are sophisticated, refined, and bold. Colour is often monochromatic or a palette with bold contrast. Lines will be clean and unfussy, with a sleek and polished finish. Modern brides often go for sheath dresses rather than traditional princess gowns, and flowers will usually be bold, but minimalist. If you’re a bride that wants things a little frilly and feminine, your wedding isn’t going to be here.

Rustic.

Want to avoid formality? Do weddings feel a bit impersonal to you? A rustic wedding may be just the thing. These events are slightly more casual, with an emphasis on rural charm and country details. Expect an abundance of wood and stone in the décor. Flowers are usually un-manicured and varied between tables in centrepieces. Colours range from earthy tone to deeper jewel palettes, but generally nothing too monochromatic or bright.

Vintage.

Those frilly and feminine brides? A vintage wedding may be right up their alley. This theme is all about the lace, historical inspiration, and most likely, pastels. Think antique, feminine styling. These weddings generally featured very muted colour palettes and lots of lace, burlap, linen, and delicate flowers.

Retro.

Highly nostalgic with a bit of a wink, retro weddings are fun and merry with bright and happy colour palettes. To pull off this theme well, you need a terrific sense of humour and a less traditional vision for your wedding day. Those who are more conservative or reserved might want to consider another theme that will allow their classic taste to shine. As a general rule, vintage is typically pre 1940s, whereas retro is after.

Of course these are simply the most popular themes out there – you should never feel limited on what you want to achieve on your perfect day.
